On May 16, 2006, at around 12:00 pm, Rolando Porter, a veteran activist and a member of the militant Bayan Muna, was riding his bicycle from his home towards a nearby store along Sacramento and San Rafael Streets in Barangay (village) Olympia, Makati City, Metro Manila. He was supposed to have his mobile phone reloaded when several unidentified men in a white utility van (L300 FB) approached and forcibly took him away.

Although a witness was unable to read the name written on the identification card (ID) flashed by one of the perpetrators, they said that the ID had the word "Police" printed on it.

In a Porter's report disappearance, the Makati Police called attention to the statement of the tricycle driver who said a man flashed a CIDG ID before boarding his vehicle. The tricycle driver was instructed to tail Porter, who was riding a bicycle, and head for the store at the corner of Sacramento and San Rafael streets to buy a "load" for his mobile phone.

The witness said that when Porter stopped at the store, the man instructed him to halt the tricycle a few meters past Porter. The man inside the tricycle wearing a fatigue uniform was noticed sending a text message.

A white van (WAA-201) arrived shortly and parked some 10 meters from the store. A man then got off the van, and the man in the tricycle followed suit.

Together, they walked up to Porter, grabbed him by his arms, and forced him into the van, the witness said.

For her part, the woman at the store said she counted four or five men on board the van, the witness said. The woman described one of the abductors as being 5'8 tall, of medium build, with short hair. She told the police that she could identify the others if she saw them again.

The whereabouts of Roland Porter remain unknown.
