PRUDENCIO BATI-ON, 34, married with four children and resident of Natividad St., Blumentritt, Sta. Cruz, Manila, was declared missing by his relatives after he failed to go home last March 1, 1999.

Daday Bati-on, 34, wife of Prudencio, narrated to the Task Force Detainees of the Philippines (TFDP) and Families of Victims of Involuntary Disappearance (FIND) that she was alarmed when her husband did not arrive that night nor call her up as he used to do in the past. She knew that her husband went to the house of the Brgy. Captain in Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City, to inquire about the buy and sell deal of a motorcycle.

Upon checking with the Brgy. Captain, Daday was told that her husband mentioned that he was going to the Land Transportation Office (LTO). He further told Daday that at around 11:30AM, he received a call from Prudencio but did not mention his location. Prudencio, likewise, called up his niece around noon.

Daday further said that her husband was supposed to be meeting a friend at the SM North EDSA at 1:00pm that day but failed. The family doesn't know what happened to him after the last two calls.

Prudencio's wife, together with some staff of the Families of Victims of Disappearance (FIND) and Task Force Detainees of the Philippines, already went the rounds of police precincts, military detention centers, and hospitals, but their search proved futile. The Bati-on's family is alarmed over this development. They are worried if this incident has something to do with his involvement in organizing work as a trade union organizer of the Sosyalistang Kilusan ng Manggagawa (SKM).

Back in the early 80s, Prudencio had been arrested and detained at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig and later on in Bicutan for his involvement in anti-Marcos activities.

On March 22, 1999, a newspaper, the Peoples Journal, carried the news regarding Bati-on's disappearance. It stated that Bati-on, the new chieftain of the Alex Boncayao Brigade (ABB), the assassination squad of the New People's Army (NPA), had been killed by his own comrade and was killed four days after his abduction. The newspaper stated its source was the military intelligence group.  All attempts had been made to locate Prudencio, but all efforts have yielded negative results.
