A suspected NPA amazona was arrested by elements of the 187th PC Coy in Brgy. Cadayacan, Ma. Aurora, born last July 29, 1989. Declared missing after her arrest and under detention was Marilyn Somera, 19, single, and resident of Brgy. Cadayacan, Ma. Aurora, Aurora. According to Pablo Somera, father of the victim Marilyn, at around 4:00 in the afternoon of July 29, 1989, Marilyn was watching the inauguration of the newly built school in their barangay when she was suddenly grabbed and dragged away by a soldier. The soldier suspected Marilyn as an amazona of the New People's Army and brought Marilyn to a detachment in Brgy. Bayanihan, an adjacent barangay of Cadayacan.
At around 8:30 in the morning of July 30, 1989, Pablo Somera went to the headquarters of 187th PC Coy in Maria Aurora, Aurora. He saw Marilyn at the camp and was able to talk with her for three hours. Marilyn was crying then. Pablo asked a captain when her daughter shall be released, to which the captain replied, "After finishing the papers." The captain further assured Pablo not to worry, as Marilyn will be all right under his command. Pablo even thanked him before he left for home. Pablo Somera again visited Marilyn at the camp on July 31, 1989, and talked with Marilyn. He also asked Segeant, an investigator, when Marilyn should be allowed to go home. He was told that it would take a long time for them to release Marilyn, as no one is preparing the papers. The following day, Dominga Somera, mother of Marilyn, together with their relatives, visited Marilyn at the camp.
On August 10, 1989, Pablo again visited the camp. He brought with him personal belongings of Marilyn. When he talked to a Sgt. to ask for her daughter, the Sgt. replied that Marilyn is no longer in the camp because she escaped. Pablo could not believe him. How could Marilyn escape when she was weak and her detention cell was situated at the center of the camp? Pablo asked himself. He believed otherwise; Marilyn could have been hidden from him or could have been abused and killed.
On August 11, 1989, Pablo sought the help of Chief Gamboa of Ma. Aurora Police and the Mayor. But the two officials have not taken enough actions to help him find Marilyn.
Marilyn was never seen again.
