Manuel Farma-Ontong was arrested on November 26, 1975, by the military in front of the Philippine General Hospital, along Taft Avenue in Malate, Manila.

According to the statement given by his sister named Teresita Ontong, during Martial Law, his brother Manuel was actively participating in people's youth organization as Samahang Demokratikong Kabataan (SDK). He used his talent as an artist to illustrate the difficulties and struggle of the Filipino people. Three (3) months after the declaration of martial law in Southern Tagalog, Manuel decided to join the underground movement.

Since then he has only visited his family twice, and the last time was when he dropped by at their house from the Philippine General Hospital and afterwards returned to the hospital to see his wounded comrades. The next day, his family learned that Manuel was forcibly abducted by the military in front of Philippine General Hospital. Since then, they never heard the whereabouts of Manuel Ontong. Prior to the incident, an encounter took place between the military and the rebel groups in Southern Tagalog. After the abduction of Manuel Ontong, his family had been under surveillance by the military until they stopped searching for the whereabouts of Manuel Ontong.

After learning of the incident, the family immediately searched for him in different military camps like the JAGO office (the legal affairs officer of the military), Camp Crame, Camp Vicente Lim, Fort Bonifacio, Camp Aguinaldo, and even as far as Laguna. But all their efforts to look for his whereabouts had resulted in vain.
