At around 9:00 in the evening on March 22, 2010, unidentified suspects armed with high-powered firearms on board a green Delica van with plate number WNN 343 arrived at Purok 5, San Jose, Mexico, Pampanga. While the spouses Grace and Jose "Peping" Cantry were in front of Andrea's store in the said area, the armed men approached them and at gun point forcibly took Jose Cantry. Jose resisted and asked them what it is all about. The commotion caught the attention of Rebecca, the victim's sister, who lives in the same compound with Jose. Rebecca tried to run towards the store where Jose was being ganged up on, but one of the unidentified men stopped her and aimed his assault rifle (M16) against her.
