On October 16, 2016, Jestoni Roniel was allegedly taken along with his wife, Patricia dela Cruz, and a certain Inong by an unidentified number of members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team at Tala, Caloocan City.
According to his mother at around 3:00 a.m. of October 16 about what happened. Jestoni, along with eight others, was at the house of her parents-in-law when SWAT team members barged in. They were looking for a certain Joey, a known drug pusher in the area. When they did not find him, they ordered everyone with tattoos to come forward. The ones with tattoos were Patricia, Jestoni, and Inong, the caretaker of the house. The SWAT members kicked them, then a gunshot was heard. Patricia was hit on her right arm. The three were then taken by the SWAT members. They left aboard two vehicles. Because of fear, no one followed to see where the three were taken.
According to Patricia's mother, Marilou, "Dennis," her brother-in-law who had connections with the police, told her to check the Barugo Police Station in Caloocan. When they did, however, they were not allowed to enter. "Dennis" still assured her that everything would be alright and even said that by October 20, 2016, all would be fine; she, however, did not hear from "Dennis" on October 20. On the following day, "Dennis" went to her house and apologized to her. He said that Tikang (Patricia's nickname) would be missing forever. He did not explain further.
Patricia's family went to different hospitals, police stations, and even funeral homes in the nearby areas to look for her, but they had no luck finding her. Marilou had also lost contact with "Dennis."
Sometime in 2017, Marilou received information that there were three persons with tattoos found inside a drum somewhere in Tanay, Rizal. Marilou wanted to go to Tanay to check if her daughter was one of those found, but she had no means to go there.
