Felix Salaveria Jr., was abducted at around 11:00 in the morning of 28 August 2024 while walking home towards his rented house in Brgy. Cobo, Tabaco, Albay.
It was a rainy morning when Jun, as he was known to friends, had just finished having his lunch in a nearby canteen. As he was walking home, he turned left at the next street corner, and a white Toyota HiAce van stopped beside him, and suddenly two unidentified men jumped out of the van and grabbed Jun, then shoved him inside the van.
The van immediately left the place of incident; all of this was captured by the CCTV camera owned by the barangay hall.
He had just reported the disappearance of James Jasminez five days earlier to their comrades. He and James and some friends had just celebrated his 66th birthday earlier on 23 August 2024 at Patang Siram restaurant in Tabaco, Albay; they parted ways that night.
When after a day or two he could no longer contact James, he reported James's disappearance to their colleagues in Manila. Five days later he would become a victim of enforced disappearance himself. A friend of Jun's called his eldest daughter, Isya, on 30 August 2024, informing her of Felix’s disappearance.
Felix was a sociology student at the University of the East – Manila in the early 1980s, when he became involved in student activism against the Marcos dictatorship. He particularly delved into the indigenous peoples' causes. He became a founding member of TABAK (Tunay na Alyansa ng Bayan Alay sa mga Katutubo) and KATRIBU (Kabataan para sa Tribung Pilipino); later, he became a cycling enthusiast and was a founding member of CYCAD (Cycling Advocates) in the mid-1990s. Felix suffered a stroke in 2023 that made his left side of his body paralyzed.
