Efren Bonagua was last known to have gone to meet a business associate in Marikina, Metro Manila, until around 5:30 pm on Wednesday, November 9, 1988, as he had informed his mother, Azucena Bonagua, at noontime of the same day. He left home at around 2:00 pm. He was expected to be back by 7:00 pm; however, he has not been seen nor heard from by his relatives or friends since that Wednesday afternoon.

On the day he was last seen, Mr. Bonagua was wearing a navy blue polo shirt, black pants, and leather sandals. He brought with him a grey shoulder bag he usually carries when going out.
