Barrios, David Jr., 27, male, single, senior researcher of MP Romeo Jalosjos of Zamboanga del Norte, was last seen on the premises of the United Church of Christ of the Philippines (UCCP) at EDSA, Quezon City, on November 19, 1985.
Barrios, Jr. was abducted by three armed plainclothes men between 12:45 and 1:00 PM on the 2nd floor grounds of UCCP National Headquarters. Along the corridor, two of the three men pointed their .45 caliber guns at Barrios and the three other witnesses. They were forced to lie down and singled out Barrios Jr. Witnesses saw Barrios and the three men walk out of the UCCP through the backdoor. The three suspects reportedly shoved Barrios into a cream-colored Toyota Corolla car, which sped off to Cubao.
Twenty four hours after the abduction and despite follow-ups and inquiries with various military intelligence and police units, David Barrios Jr.'s whereabouts remain unknown.
He was reportedly gathering data on the food blockade situation in Mindanao from the UCCP Human Rights Desk. The food blockade, dubbed as "resource control" in military lingo, is imposed by the military authorities in alleged rebel areas purportedly to deprive the New People's Army (NPA) of their food supplies reportedly coming from peasant supporters.
According to MP Jalosjos, a PDA, or Prevention Detention Action, was issued against Barrios two years ago. He was released early last year to the custody of Jalosjos, who requested Enrile to recommend to President Marcos the lifting of his PDA.
The above consideration led Barrios' friends and relatives to believe that the abduction was indeed a military operation.
