Perez, Arsenio "Nic," single, a professor of development studies at the University of the Philippines at Padre Faura, Manila, was last seen by his sister at the gate of their residence in Quezon City at around 6:30 am on January 24, 1986.

On February 22, 1986, his sister reported to the office that it had been almost a month since Arsenio had disappeared. On that day when he left their residence, he left behind his ID and wallet and seemed bothered. He mentioned to his mother last December, 1985, during the barricade at UP that "baka mag-crackdown."

At UP he was known by students and fellow instructors to be a loner. Although he had a class on that day, Jan. 24, 1986, he didn't report to school or to his class at 10:00 am to his co-professor, Rolando Simbulan.

According to his sister, he never arrived home late, only on June 15, 1985, and also he never left home without bidding goodbye, only on that day, Jan. 24, 1986. He was also considered to be an avid reader of books pertaining to society, economics, politics, and other related readings. According to Nic's close friend, during his college days, he was involved in students' activism (FQS), but after he left the seminary, no involvement so far was known about him.

The family of Arsenio Perez has visited different funeral parlors, police precincts, and hospitals looking for him, but efforts yielded negative results as to his whereabouts.
